The Faith Academy of Marble Falls boys basketball team earned a 3-1 record at the Lorena Tournament Dec. 5-7.

The Flames were set to play for the consolation championship, but the matchups meant facing Waco Live Oak, a District 4-3A opponent. Both programs at Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools members. Meanwhile, two University Interscholastic League members had a similar dilemma.

So tournament officials “switched the schedule,” Faith head coach Zakk Revell said.

Faith defeated Lorena 48-44, Fairfield 75-56 and Jarrell 54-46 and lost to Waco Connally 53-44.

The game against the host was especially beneficial. Revelle noted Faith led by 11 points going into the final stanza.

“They hit some shots late that gave us some adversity,” he said. “You have to fight and figure out how to close games out. That will benefit us.”

Sophomore guard Will Slyker dropped in a jumper with 12 seconds remaining. Then junior guard Jase Marshall iced the contest by hitting two free throws.

“Jase played well this weekend,” Revelle said. “he’s coming along well. There’s a lot of room for improvement, but he make everyone else’s life easier.”

Seattle Hampton dropped in 16 points against Fairfield.

“Jase found him,” the coach said. “It was a good team effort by everyone.”

The coach noted the Flames’ depth gives him flexibility on rotations and play calling.

“We have multiple guys who can do multiple things,” he said. “We shared the ball well this weekend. We got a lot of involvement. We were flying around offensively and defensively. We played with good pace. They got up and down the floor well. That will benefit us.”

Revelle also liked the shot selection from his players, especially as they battled through the fatigue of a contest.

“The pace is good,” he said. “We did a good job of playing five guys, who shared one ball.”

He commended his players for facing a brutal part of their December schedule that includes welcoming Austin Regents Tuesday, Dec. 10, with the junior varsity playing at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 6:30 p.m. and hosting their own tournament this weekend.

“This is the toughest stretch of scheduling games,” Revelle said. “We hope we play better than we did this weekend.”
